TikTok Shop seller dispute evidence: 24 hours or 48, and what to upload

On this page
TikTok Shop moves fast on both sides of the sale. Orders come out of a live stream or a creator video in bursts, and when one goes wrong the dispute clock is measured in hours, not weeks. Sellers who search for "TikTok Shop dispute 24 hours" are usually looking at that clock after a notification has already landed.
This guide sets out the current US rules from TikTok's own policy pages, explains where the "24 hours" figure came from, and shows what to capture at the bench so the answer is ready before the dispute exists. We checked every rule in October 2026; links go to the page that states it.
Why TikTok Shop disputes are won or lost on the clock
A TikTok Shop dispute is decided on whatever evidence is in Seller Center when the window closes, and the window is short. TikTok's Requirements for After-sales Dispute Escalations says evidence must be authentic, relevant, complete and submitted within the time limits, and that missing the deadline may lead to an automatic refund at the seller's expense.
What the reviewer actually checks is narrow. For each dispute reason, the policy names the seller evidence it expects and then states the outcome if that evidence is missing or does not prove the point: the dispute supports the customer's refund or return-and-refund request. There is no "seller's word" category. A message explaining that you always pack carefully is not on the list.
TikTok Shop dispute deadlines for US sellers (October 2026)
The full US timeline runs from the buyer's first request to your appeal, and three of its clocks belong to you. The table combines TikTok's dispute requirements with its Customer Order Cancellation, Return, and Refund Policy.
| Stage | Who acts | Window (US, checked October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Return or refund request | Buyer | 30 calendar days from "Delivered" by default; some sellers can set 14, 30, 45 or 90 days |
| Review the request | Seller | 4 business days; 2 business days for refund-only requests on items of $100 or less. TikTok may approve automatically if you do not act |
| Escalate to a dispute after you reject | Buyer | 10 calendar days |
| Submit dispute evidence | Seller | 48 hours from the dispute notification |
| New request after a withdrawn or rejected one, or a new dispute after a judgment | Buyer | 2 calendar days |
| Appeal a judgment | Seller | 30 calendar days, by Help Center ticket |
| Money-Back Guarantee claim (damaged, defective or not as described) | Buyer | 90 calendar days from receipt |
| Disputes per item | Buyer | Maximum of 2 |
Evidence goes in through Seller Center: Orders → Manage Returns → Appealed/Disputed.
24 hours or 48 hours?
Both numbers are real; they describe different versions of the rule. In June 2026, PPC Land reported a TikTok policy document dated June 25, 2026 that required evidence within 24 hours and gave sellers 21 days to appeal. The version of the same requirements page we checked, dated October 8, 2026, says 48 hours for evidence and 30 calendar days for appeals.
There is also a third "24" that causes confusion: TikTok's seller academy has a separate page on a 24-hour response-rate metric for customer chats. That is a service metric for buyer messages, not the dispute evidence deadline.
What TikTok Shop accepts as evidence for each dispute reason
TikTok sets a specific seller evidence standard for each dispute reason, and almost all of them point back to the moment the order was packed. The left two columns summarize the dispute requirements page; the right column is what that means at your bench.
| Dispute reason | What TikTok asks the seller for | What to capture before it ships |
|---|---|---|
| Damaged package or product | A complete packing, sealing and handover video or photos showing the item was intact; for orders you ship yourself, evidence the package was not visibly damaged on delivery | The item from all sides, protective packing, the seal, the label, and the sealed parcel at handover |
| Not as described | The listing and selected SKU as they stood when the order was placed, plus unfiltered natural-light photos or a complete packing video showing the item matched | A dated listing snapshot and the item's color, size, model and features on camera |
| Wrong item | Clear fulfillment evidence for the order: packing records, product identifiers and SKU or specification details | The SKU label, variant tag or serial number in the same shot as the order label |
| Missing items or empty package | Fulfillment evidence plus packing or weighing evidence showing the items were prepared before dispatch | Each unit going in, the closed contents before the flaps go down, and the sealed parcel on a scale |
| Delivered but not received | Valid proof of delivery tied to the order or tracking number, such as a delivery photo or a signature | Carrier tracking and delivery confirmation (the packing record does not answer this one) |
| Return cannot be resold | A complete continuous unboxing video or clear photos linked to the return label; for removed-tag claims, proof the tag was attached at dispatch | Tags on camera at packing, and the return opened on camera with its return label visible |
Two of these deserve extra attention. Missing or empty package disputes explicitly mention weighing evidence, so a scale reading of the sealed parcel belongs in the same record as the video. And return cannot be resold disputes ask you to prove a tag was attached when the item left, which only works if the tag was on camera at packing. Our guides to the empty box claim and to wardrobing returns cover both patterns in depth.
Why the evidence has to exist before the order ships
Evidence for a TikTok Shop dispute has to be created before the parcel leaves, because every item on TikTok's list describes a moment that is over once it ships. You cannot film the seal of a box that is already in a buyer's hallway, and a listing edited last week no longer shows what the buyer bought.
Timing makes this sharper. Forty-eight hours is enough time to find a recording, not enough to reconstruct one. Look at the far end of the timeline too: a Money-Back Guarantee claim can arrive up to 90 days after the buyer receives the order, and you then have 30 days to appeal. A recording tool that deletes footage after 30 days leaves you with nothing to upload for a claim that arrives in week ten.
A record made before dispatch is also more persuasive than anything made afterwards. A written statement drafted after a complaint is a claim. A continuous recording of the order being packed, bound to that order and timestamped by a system when nobody had a reason to shape it, is a record. The general standard for that recording is in what makes a packing video count as evidence.
Step by step: answering a TikTok Shop dispute inside 48 hours
The procedure has two halves: three habits at the bench, and three moves once a request or dispute arrives.
Step 4 is the easiest one to miss: a request left to auto-approve never becomes a dispute at all, so the best evidence in the world never gets looked at.
Turn the recording into a file a reviewer can read
A reviewer working through a queue needs to see the point of your evidence in under a minute, so give them a document, not a folder. Where TikTok's form accepts the uncut video, upload it. Alongside it, or where the form takes images, a single PDF does the work:
- Three to five stills from the recording: order label with the item, the SKU or serial label, the item in the box, the sealed parcel with its label.
- The listing and SKU as they stood on the order date.
- A short timeline: ordered, packed, shipped, delivered, buyer contact.
- An integrity line: the recording's fingerprint and a link where it can be checked.
TikTok's policy page does not publish upload size limits, so check the limits shown in the dispute form before you build a 30-page file. The same PDF also answers the bank if the buyer files a card chargeback instead. That is a separate track from the after-sales dispute, with its own deadline on the case; Chargeflow's TikTok Shop chargeback guide summarizes it, and we explain why banks want documents rather than video in chargeback software vs packing video.

Copy-ready dispute notes for TikTok Shop
Keep notes factual and tied to what the evidence shows. Argue about what you shipped, not about what the buyer says they found.
How PallasMark handles TikTok Shop disputes
PallasMark is built so the record for every order already exists when TikTok's 48-hour clock starts, and so it leaves your hands as a file a reviewer can read.
- Capture on the phone you already have. Create the TikTok Shop order in PallasMark (manual orders work for any sales channel), scan its label, and record. The recording is bound to that order before the first frame, and photos carry your company name, the order number and the upload time inside the image. No mounted cameras, no fixed pack station.
- Sealed at upload. Every file gets a SHA-256 fingerprint, and there is no edit button for recordings anywhere in the product. A public verification page re-checks the stored file on the spot, so a TikTok reviewer, a bank or the buyer can confirm it has not changed, without an account. More on that in tamper-proof video.
- Ready-to-upload PDF. On request, PallasMark builds the evidence dossier for the order: four stills from each recorded video, order details, photos, fingerprints and the buyer's approval if there was one. You download it and upload it in Seller Center.
- The buyer signs off first, when it matters. For high-value or dispute-prone orders, hold the parcel and send the buyer the sealed recording. They watch it, choose Approve or Report an issue, and the record keeps how long they watched. A later "not as described" claim then contradicts the buyer's own approval. See buyer approval.
- Retention that outlasts the claim windows. Proofs are kept for 90 days by default on every plan, and orders with an open dispute, chargeback or return are never purged.
What the seller's side actually looks like
Capture on the phone that is already in the room, and a sealed record the other side can open and check without an account.

Frequently asked questions
Is the TikTok Shop dispute evidence deadline 24 hours or 48 hours?
TikTok Shop's US policy page on after-sales dispute escalations, dated October 8, 2026, says sellers must provide evidence within 48 hours of a dispute notification. A June 2026 news report described the earlier version as 24 hours, which is why both numbers circulate. Treat the timer shown on your own dispute notification as the deadline that applies to that case.
What happens if I miss the TikTok Shop dispute deadline?
TikTok's policy says missing the evidence deadline may lead to an automatic refund at the seller's expense. Separately, if you do not act on the original return or refund request within its review window, TikTok Shop may approve it automatically. Both clocks run independently, so missing either one can cost you the order.
What evidence does TikTok Shop accept for a damaged item dispute?
For damaged packages or products, TikTok asks the seller for a complete packing, sealing and handover video or photos showing the item was intact. For orders you ship yourself, it also wants evidence that the package was not visibly damaged on delivery. If that evidence is missing or insufficient, the dispute is decided in the customer's favor.
Can I appeal a TikTok Shop dispute decision?
Yes. The current US policy lets sellers appeal a judgment by submitting a Help Center ticket within 30 calendar days of receiving it. Appeals of arbitration outcomes are only considered after the related penalty appeal has been approved, and evidence for any dispute still open must still meet the 48-hour deadline.
How long should I keep packing videos for TikTok Shop orders?
Plan for at least 90 days after delivery. Buyers can file a return or refund request within 30 days of delivery, TikTok's Money-Back Guarantee accepts damaged, defective or not-as-described claims for up to 90 days from receipt, and you then have 30 days to appeal. A record kept for 90 days or more after delivery covers the claim window, and you need it a little longer when an appeal follows.
Does PallasMark connect to TikTok Shop?
PallasMark works for TikTok Shop sellers through manual orders: create the order, record the pack on any phone, and the record is tied to that order and fingerprinted. When a dispute arrives you generate the evidence PDF from the order page and upload it in Seller Center yourself. Shopify, WooCommerce, ShipStation, ShipHero and Amazon orders arrive automatically if you also sell there.
Do TikTok Shop bank chargebacks follow the same rules?
No. A chargeback filed through the buyer's bank is a separate process from TikTok's internal after-sales dispute, with its own deadline on the case and a decision made by the financial institution. The same pre-shipment record supports both, but submit it through the channel the claim actually arrived on.
