In Southeast Asia, packing video is not a nice-to-have. Marketplace sellers on Shopee and Lazada have been filming their packing tables for years, and the platforms have turned that habit into written evidence standards. What has changed in 2026 is the detail: what has to be visible, for how long, in which format, and how quickly it has to reach the agent.

This guide sets out Shopee's current rules from its own seller education pages, what is known about Lazada's dispute process, the legal background in the Philippines, and how a phone-based setup compares with CCTV and PC-based packing stations. Rules differ between Shopee's markets; we use the Philippines guidance, updated September 30, 2026, as the detailed example and checked it in October 2026.

Why the packing video decides Shopee and Lazada disputes

A Shopee or Lazada return dispute is decided by an agent comparing the buyer's evidence with yours, and the seller's side of that comparison is almost always the packing record. Shopee's guide on how to properly provide evidence for return and refund says plainly that the seller must provide evidence on time, otherwise the agent decides on the information available.

The buyer's side is well defined. Shopee's buyer help asks for photos or video of the issue, and a clear video for faulty products. Against that, a seller who says "we checked it before shipping" has nothing the agent can weigh. A seller who submits an uncut recording of that exact parcel, with its waybill readable, has a record.

Shopee and Lazada dispute rules at a glance (October 2026)

The table combines Shopee Philippines' seller guidance with what a third-party seller guide reports for Lazada Malaysia. Check your own market's Seller Centre before relying on a specific number.

Rule Shopee (Philippines, official seller guidance) Lazada (Malaysia, as reported by BigSeller)
Evidence when you file a dispute Within 48 hours, including weekends and holidays Not stated
Additional evidence on request Within 24 hours, including weekends and holidays Within 3 business days
Evidence before the buyer's request is approved Within 24 hours Not stated
What to show Items complete, correct, undamaged; packed to guidelines; readable air waybill; all six sides of the parcel Item condition before packing (internal view) and the sealed parcel (external view)
Video format Uncut; up to 30 MB and under 1 minute, or a Google Drive / unlisted YouTube link open for 15+ days Low-quality or irrelevant photos and videos are usually insufficient
Decision Based on investigation; evidence does not guarantee approval Dispute Agent decides within 5 business days
Appeal Not covered in the evidence guide Only appeals with genuinely new information are reviewed
Damage during return shipping Return evidence: unboxing with the return waybill Claim within 7 days of the delivered date

The Lazada column comes from BigSeller's guide to Lazada return disputes for Malaysian sellers, dated December 2025. Lazada publishes its own rules inside Seller Center, by country, and they were not publicly available for us to check; treat the column as a well-informed summary rather than policy text.

What Shopee wants to see in a pre-shipment video

Shopee's pre-shipment standard is specific: a photo or uncut video proving the items were complete, correct and in good condition, securely packed, with a clear and readable air waybill attached and visible throughout. The Shopee Philippines evidence guide breaks it into three parts and then adds rules for particular kinds of item.

The three parts every pre-shipment record needs:

  1. The items. Matching the order and listing in quantity and inclusions; the right variant, model, size (actual measurement), color or specification; and free from defects, damage or signs of use.
  2. The packing. Packed according to Shopee's packaging guidelines, with the air waybill attached and readable throughout.
  3. The parcel. The sealed parcel with its waybill, showing all six sides (front, back, left, right, top and bottom), including its condition, sealing and packaging materials. Shopee says the parcel must be fully visible, uncropped, with no cut-off sections.

Extra rules by item type:

Item type What to add on camera
Packed in a resealable pouch Every component and inclusion, and all sides of the outer packaging
Easily damaged All sides and angles of the product and the outer packaging
Perishable or with an expiry date A readable expiry or best-before date of at least three months from the shipping date; without it, Shopee says the buyer's request is valid
Manufacturer seal The IMEI or serial number and the seal sticker (holographic, manufacturer or acrylic)
Second-hand (used or refurbished) For faulty claims, video of functional condition such as battery health and charging; for damage claims, the existing wear such as dents or scratches
Alleged counterfeit Brand or dealer authorization, the original purchase receipt and trademark registration, signed and stamped

The second-hand rule is new: Shopee PH announced that from October 7, 2026 additional evidence is required for second-hand items. Sellers of refurbished phones and electronics will find the evidence pattern in refurbished electronics dispute evidence, and serial-number capture in AI label reading for serial numbers.

Return evidence: film the parcel before you open it

When the dispute is about what came back, Shopee asks for return evidence: an unboxing of the return parcel that shows the discrepancy you are claiming (wrong item, missing inclusions, damage, or use), with the return air waybill clear and readable, and all sides of the outer packaging shown before you open it. The same discipline applies on any marketplace, as we describe in the customer says the wrong item was sent.

Lazada return dispute evidence

Lazada's dispute team decides return disputes on the evidence both sides submit, and packing photos or video are the seller's main exhibit. BigSeller's December 2025 guide for Malaysian sellers lists what the team reviews: order history, evidence from buyer and seller, chat between the two, the buyer's past history, and the seller's profile and track record.

On packing evidence, the same guide recommends photos or video showing an internal view (the item's condition before packing) and an external view (the sealed parcel), and suggests CCTV at packing stations for high-volume sellers. It warns that low-quality or irrelevant photos and videos are usually considered insufficient. Two timing points matter: additional proof within 3 business days, and appeals reviewed only when they contain genuinely new information. A recording you did not submit the first time can be that new information, but only if it exists.

The Philippines DTI and "no video, no refund"

Sellers in the Philippines cannot make a buyer's unboxing video a condition for a refund. In February 2024, Unbox PH reported that DTI Assistant Secretary Amanda Nograles described no-return, no-exchange policies as prohibited under Republic Act 7394, the Consumer Act of the Philippines, and named requiring a buyer to film before accepting an item as an example of a deceptive sales act. Buyers of defective goods keep their rights to a return, replacement, refund or repair.

The practical consequence is simple. The marketplace may still ask buyers for photos or video of a problem, but a seller policy that refuses refunds without the buyer's video is not a defense. What the seller controls is their own record, made before the parcel left.

Phone, CCTV or packing-station software

All three setups can produce a recording Shopee will accept; they differ in what they cost, where they work, and whether the record can be checked by someone else. Competitor details below are taken from their public pages, checked October 2026.

Setup Example What it involves Listed price
IP camera station kit ASCAM Enterprise Two IP cameras per station (overview and label close-up), a scan-triggered recording tagged with the order number; no tamper-evidence claim on its page $100 or $170 per station per year, plus a $350 hardware kit per station
PC and webcam software PackingProof Windows 10 PC (i3, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB storage), branded webcam and barcode scanner; footage stored on the PC or central storage $39.90 or $49.90 per year; $30 installation per PC
Scan-and-photo tool BigSeller Capture Proof Takes a photo automatically after the label is scanned; photos only; images sent with the "send" option are kept 30 days Not listed on the help page
Phone per packer PallasMark Any iPhone or Android phone on a stand; video and photos; every file fingerprinted and checkable on a public page Free plan, no card; see pricing

For a sense of scale: equipping four packing stations with ASCAM's Ultimate tier and its hardware kit lists at $680 a year in licenses plus $1,400 of kits, or $2,080 in the first year, before any network or installation work. A camera kit also fixes where packing can happen. Photo-only tools are lighter still, but Shopee's standard asks for the item, the packing and six sides of the parcel, which a single auto-captured photo cannot show, and a 30-day image life is shorter than many dispute timelines.

Step by step: a Shopee-ready packing video on a phone

A phone on a stand produces a Shopee-ready clip if it records the item, the packing and all six sides of the parcel in one uncut take. Practice it a few times and it fits comfortably under a minute for most orders.

Two practical tips. BigSeller's Shopee claims guide suggests holding the finished parcel, with fragile stickers and the waybill, in front of the camera for at least three seconds, which is a good habit for readability. And mount the phone; a handheld recording tends to crop exactly the part an agent needs. A written routine helps a team do this the same way every time; see the packing station SOP template.

Copy-ready dispute notes for Shopee and Lazada

Short, factual notes that point the agent to the right second of the recording work best.

How PallasMark handles Shopee and Lazada parcels

PallasMark gives every packer a sealed, checkable record of each parcel on the phone they already carry, with no cameras to mount and no PC at each station.

  • Every phone records. Packers record video and photos in the PallasMark app on iPhone or Android. There are no per-station or per-camera fees, so adding a packer during a sale campaign adds no hardware. See the packing video recording app.
  • Keyed to the waybill, even without an integration. Record each parcel as a standalone packing record tied to its air waybill or order number, with custom fields for anything else you track, such as SKU or batch. Search later by date, creator or field. That is the warehouse proof workflow, built for exactly this volume.
  • Sealed so the agent can trust it. Every stored file gets a SHA-256 fingerprint and there is no edit button for recordings. A public verification page re-hashes the file on the spot, so a Shopee or Lazada agent, or the buyer, can confirm it is unaltered without an account. See tamper-proof video.
  • Returns on the record too. Film the incoming return parcel, waybill first, as its own record; and where the return is open in PallasMark, ask the buyer to film or photograph the item and packaging through a link before they send it. More in return evidence.
  • Kept longer than a photo tool. Proofs are kept for 90 days by default on every plan, and orders with an open dispute, chargeback or return are never purged. On request, PallasMark also builds an evidence PDF with four stills from each video for any dispute channel that wants a document; why banks and many forms prefer documents to video is covered in chargeback software vs packing video.

The same habit raises packing accuracy before any dispute happens; see packing QA and returns. Teams packing at volume can read warehouse packing video proof or start free with no card at /register.

For deadlines and evidence rules on other marketplaces, see the hub on seller dispute evidence by platform; TikTok Shop sellers in the region will also want TikTok Shop dispute evidence, and the general capture standard is in the packing video evidence checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shopee accept packing videos as seller evidence?

Yes. Shopee Philippines' seller guidance accepts a photo or uncut video as pre-shipment evidence, showing the items complete, correct and in good condition, packed to Shopee's packaging guidelines, with a clear and readable air waybill attached and all six sides of the parcel visible. Videos should be within 30 MB and under one minute, or shared as a Google Drive or unlisted YouTube link that stays accessible for at least 15 days.

How long do I have to submit evidence in a Shopee return dispute?

In the Philippines, Shopee's seller guidance gives 48 hours to provide evidence when filing a dispute on an approved return or refund, including weekends and holidays. When a Shopee agent asks for additional evidence, or asks for evidence before approving the buyer's request, the deadline is 24 hours. If you miss it, the agent decides on the information available.

What changed on Shopee on October 7, 2026?

Shopee Philippines announced that from October 7, 2026, additional evidence must be provided when raising return or refund disputes, or when requested for second-hand items. For used or refurbished items, sellers need pre-shipment proof of the item's functional condition, such as battery health and charging, or of its existing wear, such as dents or screen scratches.

What evidence does Lazada want in a return dispute?

Lazada's dispute rules sit in Seller Center and vary by country. A December 2025 guide for Malaysian sellers from BigSeller says the dispute team reviews order history, both sides' evidence, chat between buyer and seller and both parties' track records, recommends packing photos or videos showing the item before packing and the sealed parcel, and says additional proof must arrive within 3 business days. Confirm the current deadline on your own dispute.

Is a 'no video, no refund' policy legal in the Philippines?

In February 2024, Unbox PH reported that DTI Assistant Secretary Amanda Nograles said no-return, no-exchange policies are prohibited under the Consumer Act of the Philippines and that requiring a buyer to film before accepting an item is an example of a deceptive sales act. Sellers there cannot rely on the buyer's video, so their own pre-shipment record carries the weight.

Do I need CCTV to meet Shopee's packing video rules?

No. Shopee asks for a clear, uncut recording with a readable waybill and all sides of the parcel, not for a particular camera. A phone on a fixed stand meets that standard, and it lets every packer record without installing IP cameras or a PC at each station.

Can PallasMark record Shopee and Lazada parcels without a store integration?

Yes. Each parcel can be recorded as a standalone packing record keyed to its air waybill or order number, with custom fields for anything else you track. Every file is fingerprinted, proofs are kept for 90 days by default, and a public verification page lets a dispute agent confirm the recording is unaltered.
